April / May update

Dear Members and welcome to our April/ May Club update.

A big congratulations to WSC's Grae Morris - next stop Olympic Games!!!! Grae took out the silver medal at French Olympic week in the IQFoil class. Congratulations!

Grae pictured here with Evie Haseldine who is also off to the Olympics, Congratulations to Evie. Evie is a regular visitor to the club and was guest speaker at our Opti Chicks event.

We have had a wet start to as we head into Autumn, but that won't dampen our spirits as we have many social and sailing events planned here over the coming weeks and we would love to see as many of you at WSC.

There are three interclub events for Optis scheduled at RSYS, HHSC and WSC starting with an interclub at WSC on Sunday 2 June - all dates to be confirmed.

The first warning signal are 8am for Moth/Waszp/49er/FX - 8:00 and General and Optimist Fleet at 10:00 am. Please view Optimist NOR. WASZP Traveller Trophy dates: 2 Jun, 21 July and 4 Aug.

Not up for racing this season? There are always other ways to participate and be involved. Help out with our on water roles such as start boat and mark lay, on-land roles such as keeping our ramp safe and dollies tidy, be the grill master cooking the BBQ for our sailors after the race. What a beautiful morning we had celebrating the lifetime membership presentations of Victor Friezer, Ross Barratt and Stan Bland. Thank you for those who attended the club to witness the ceremony and congratulations again to the well deserving recipients. It was certainly a special morning.

End of season Sunday 19 May at 1pm

Please join us at our presentation and club social on Sunday 19 May at 1pm for lunch and social followed by the awards presentation. This is a free event and we welcome everyone to attend. There is the option to purchase food. Pre-purchase lunch for $20 on the day $25. Lunch is BBQ pulled chicken and beef with fresh baked rolls and salads will be served and a dessert buffet to finish. Vegetarian option available of pumpkin and falafel. Select any dietary requirements on registration. BYO alcohol. Soft drinks, water and juice provided.

We look forward to seeing you all on the day for presentation of club awards and awards for the Spring/Summer Sailing Season.

If you would like to make any recommendations for awards - Club member of the year, Youth member of the year, Honorary Life member, Junior club member of the year, Most Improved Junior, Rising young gun award, Volunteer of the Year, Youth Club Captain, Instructor of the Year, staff recognition and any special awards.
